University of Mary Washington (Va.)
Mary Washington is the first member of the NCAA Division III Capital Athletic Conference to join the SIDEARM Sports family in building a site powered by SIDEARM.
One of the top NCAA Division III athletic programs in the nation, the University of Mary Washington has become known as an institution that succeeds both athletically and academically. Since 1976, UMW has expanded its program from six sports to 23. Over that time, the Eagles have produced 215 All-Americans, played in 155 NCAA Tournament events, and developed the Battleground Athletic Complex, where four NCAA National Championship events have been held. The Battleground, one of the finest outdoor facilities in the nation, features three stadiums.
An immensely successful broad-based program, UMW prides itself on the achievements and successes of each of its 23 teams, rather than concentrating on a few sports and neglecting others. This philosophy has proven quite attractive to many student-athletes, as 22 of the school’s teams have advanced to NCAA National Tournament action. Three women’s tennis teams have brought home national championships, and field hockey, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer have advanced to and hosted national championship events. The 2001 and 2002 women’s lacrosse teams also advanced to the NCAA Final Four, as did the 2007 women’s basketball team. Women’s rowing, women’s lacrosse, and women’s tennis all achieved top-10 national rankings in 2007.
Other varsity sports UMW fields include baseball, men's basketball, men's and women's cross country,
equestrian, men's lacrosse, men's rowing, softball, swimming, men's tennis, men's and women's track & field, and women's volleyball.
Ranked #4 in our class by U.S. News and World Report and in the top ten nationally in Peace Corps alumni, and with a Pulitzer-prize winning poet on the faculty, UMW is an institution on the move. Our spectacular two campuses – one park-like and intimate, nestled in the picturesque, culturally lively city of Fredericksburg, and the other a sleek, high tech graduate and professional campus in the growing technology corridor of Stafford – offer you the best of all learning environments.
The University of Mary Washington is half way between the nation’s capital and the capital of Virginia, and in a booming economic and entertainment region that is environmentally and historically conscious.
